In den Plitvicer Seen wollte ich mit dem Boot auf die andere Seite des großen Sees übersetzen. Als ich über die Holzbrücke ging, fiel mir am Handlauf eine unglaublich irisierende Gestalt auf: ein Moschusbock, der hektisch auf der Kante hin‑ und herlief.
Ein gutes Foto zu machen war schwierig — er bewegte sich schnell, und wir waren genau dort, wo ständig Touristengruppen zur Bootsstelle strömten. Damit ihn niemand aus Versehen erschreckt oder verletzt, stellte ich mich bei jedem „Schwall“ Menschen kurz davor und schirmte ihn ab. Sobald es wieder ruhig war, fotografierte ich weiter.
Am Ende blieb ich über zwei Stunden dort, nur für diesen einen Moment. Genau diese Mischung aus Geduld, Schutz und Glück hat dieses Bild möglich gemacht — und sie passt zu dem, was mich an Naturfotografie am meisten berührt: Man bekommt nichts „genommen“, man bekommt es geschenkt, wenn man respektvoll genug wartet.
ENTDECKUNG
Zwischen den alten Weiden der Plitvicer Seen zeigt sich dieses lebende Juwel manchmal über den Duft, bevor man es überhaupt sieht. Wie ein geschliffener Saphir, der Licht einfängt, wechselt sein metallisch blau‑grünes Exoskelett mit jeder Bewegung den Ton. Seinen Namen trägt er nicht wegen der Farbe, sondern wegen seines feinen Rosen‑Moschus‑Dufts — ein Beweis dafür, dass Luxus in der Natur nicht nur visuell ist. Wahre Schönheit spricht mehr als einen Sinn an.

PHOTOGRAPHIC STORY
While hiking in Plitvice Lakes, I wanted to take a boat across to the other side of the large lake. As I crossed the wooden bridge, I noticed an astonishingly iridescent beetle pacing frantically back and forth along the edge of the handrail — a Musk Beetle.
Getting a good photograph was difficult: it moved fast, and we were right at the entrance/exit for the boat, where waves of tourists passed by every few minutes. Each time a crowd came through, I stepped in front to shield it — so it wouldn’t be startled or accidentally harmed. When the walkway was quiet again, I kept photographing.
In the end, I spent over two hours there for a single moment. That mix of patience, protection, and luck is what made this image possible — and it captures what I love most about nature photography: nothing is taken; it’s granted when you’re willing to wait with respect.

Among the ancient willows of Plitvice Lakes, this living jewel can reveal itself through scent before sight.
