Im Karwendel, oberhalb von Pertisau am Achensee, sah ich auf einem umgestürzten Buchenstamm einen kleinen, bewegten blauen Punkt. Als ich näherkam, wurde mir klar, was ich da vor mir hatte: ein Alpenbock — selten, gefährdet, und in freier Wildbahn kaum zu finden.
Ich blieb ruhig, hielt Abstand und beobachtete kurz. Als ich nah genug war, machte ich ein einziges Foto. Dann lief er plötzlich entschlossen auf mich zu — fast so, als würde er eine Grenze setzen und sagen: „Genug.“ Ich nahm das ernst, ging sofort zurück und ließ ihn in Ruhe.
Dass es bei diesem einen Bild blieb, gehört für mich zur Geschichte: eine Begegnung, die nicht genommen, sondern gewährt wurde — und die daran erinnert, wie wichtig Respekt gegenüber verletzlichen Arten ist.
ENTDECKUNG
Ein Insekt wie aus einer anderen Zeit: kühles Himmelblau, tiefschwarze Zeichnung, und eine Präsenz, die man eher bei einem großen Tier erwarten würde. Seine Schönheit ist nicht laut — sie ist selten. Dieses Porträt zeigt nicht nur Farbe, sondern Charakter.

In the Karwendel mountains above Pertisau on Lake Achensee, I noticed a small moving blue dot on a fallen beech tree. As I got closer, I realized what I was looking at: Rosalia alpina — rare, endangered, and incredibly difficult to find in the wild.
I stayed calm, kept my distance, and observed for a moment. Once I was close enough, I took a single photograph. Then it suddenly started walking toward me — fast and determined — almost like setting a boundary, saying “that’s enough.” I took that seriously, stepped back immediately, and left it in peace.
The fact that this remained the only image is part of the story: an encounter that wasn’t taken, but granted — and a reminder of the respect vulnerable species deserve.

An insect that feels like it belongs to another time: cool sky-blue tones, deep black patterns, and a presence you’d expect from a much larger animal. Its beauty isn’t loud — it’s rare. This portrait doesn’t only show color; it shows character.
