Habitat: Tropical forest habitats (Amazon region)

Ecological role: Herbivore that feeds on plant material and forms part of the food web for birds, reptiles, and other predators

Lifespan: Develops from egg to nymph to adult (incomplete metamorphosis, like other grasshoppers)

Fun fact: Grasshoppers “hear” in a very different way than we do — many detect sound and vibration through specialized organs on their body, helping them react quickly to danger.
