Hidden Wonders – Volume 1 ist für mich mehr als ein Fotobuch — es ist das Ergebnis von rund 15 Jahren Hingabe an Makrofotografie und an die kleinen Tiere, die wir so leicht übersehen. Über die Jahre bin ich an viele Orte gereist, immer mit derselben Absicht: einzigartige Arthropoden zu finden und sie so zu fotografieren, dass ihre Formen, Farben, Strukturen und Verhaltensweisen sichtbar werden — nicht als „Dokumentation“, sondern als Kunst.
Von Europa bis Nordamerika, von Südamerika bis Madagaskar: Dieser erste Band ist eine kuratierte Zusammenstellung meiner besten Arbeiten und der erstaunlichsten winzigen Wesen, die mir bisher begegnet sind. Einige der Motive kennst du vielleicht aus der aktuellen Ausstellung im Alpenzoo Innsbruck — andere sind bewusst darüber hinaus gewählt, um die Vielfalt und Fremdheit (im besten Sinne) der Welt der Arthropoden zu zeigen.
Ich liebe an diesem Buch, dass es Zeit schenkt: Man kann langsamer werden, genauer schauen, Details entdecken. Hidden Wonders – Volume 1 is more than a photo book to me — it’s the result of about 15 years of devotion to macro photography and to the small creatures that are so easy to overlook. Over the years, I’ve traveled with a simple intention: to find unique arthropods and photograph them in a way that reveals their form, color, texture, and behavior — not as documentation, but as fine art.
From Europe to North America, from South America to Madagascar, this first volume is a curated selection of my strongest work and the most remarkable tiny beings I’ve encountered so far. Some images connect directly to the current exhibition at Alpenzoo Innsbruck; others go beyond it on purpose, to show the wider diversity and strangeness (in the best way) of the arthropod world.
What I love about this book is that it creates time. It invites you to slow down and look closer. And throughout the pages, there are intentional surprises — full spreads that pull you in and open your eyes to a kind of beauty that can feel almost unreal.
